 Sawing

At Scot Forge, we perform sawing operations for the cutting of initial stock before forging as well as for trimming ends, cutting test samples, splitting multiple forgings and segmenting rings.
With capabilities of cutting material up to 63" square,
we operate over 2 dozen carbide and band saws and a hot
abrasive saw, each serving a different purpose.
Band saws are especially effective cutting material that is higher in hardness, such as stainless steels, tool steel and some alloys, along with offering greater precision. Our gantry saw, with 2 separate mobile sawing heads and both vertical and horizontal cutting option capabilities, allows for simultaneous cutting of 1 or 2 work pieces.
The carbide saws are faster than band saws and work best with softer materials such as carbon and low alloy.
Our hot abrasive saw, incorporated in the Tartan Bar process, trims the bar ends after the forging and planishing steps. A 16" diameter bar is trimmed in less than 30 seconds!
Of special note are 2 band saws designed specifically for rings. One allows us to cut multiple ring sections as thin as one-quarter inch and up to 57-1/2" O.D. from a single hollow forging. This is an especially cost-effective method of producing washer-type rings.
The other, a vertical band saw, cuts through wall thicknesses to 25" on rings up to 240" O.D. and 36" face height, providing ring segments for easier shipping and handling.
