Manufacturing Engineer

Positions Available: 2
General Responsibility:

Uses knowledge of Manufacturing engineering principles and practices to develop and implement production/processing methods and controls to meet customer specifications and quality standards in the most cost efficient manner. Participate in investigations and corrective actions of work-in-process problems. Recommend and implement improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations, work instructions, equipment utilization, and other related subjects to improve manufacturing quality/process/costs. Possess a mindset focused on continuous improvement.

Duties:
- Create/update/maintain routings, work instructions and blueprints to meet customer specifications and quality standards in the most cost efficient manner.

- Interpret engineering specifications (ASTM, ASE, SAE, Customer Specs ...) called out on customer order documentation and determine necessary level of conformance.

- Utilize an understanding of current and potential process capabilities and process control limits.

- Create and maintain Technical Data Sheets.

-Where appropriate for Rework help determine course of action and written procedure/modification of the process plan.

- Review engineering change requests to determine cost/performance impact and how to process them.

- Provide technical support for the use of Manufacturing Engineering tools.

- Design and carry out time studies, method analysis, and other work measurement activities.

- Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

- Work with operations and quality to systematically ensure product/documentation quality through process control methods.

- Investigate problems to products/documentation/processes, and implement solutions ensuring timely closure.

- Support and document continuous process improvement opportunities to avoid scrap and waste.

- Serve as a resource, provide expert technical assistance, and deliver on-the-job training to employees owners, to ensure all work is performed per specifications in an expeditious, complete, cost effective and safe manner.

- Support manufacturing employee owners in disciplined approaches to problem solving (including fishbone diagrams, 5s, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)

- Assist customer Engineers in aligning their part designs to our processes to assure effective manufacturability.

- Will have influence role outside company of building and maintaining relationships with customers and vendors.

- Understand the use of computer simulations of processes and provide input and recommendations for improvements to the plant.

- Work across all plants/shifts to be able to maintain support for production

- Help identify and provide solutions for breaking production constraints/bottlenecks to improve the equipment availability, labor efficiency, and quality rates.

- Coordinate cycle time reduction initiatives through the application of process improvements.

- Develop a learning environment for the Process Technician through continuing education and application training to stay up to date with the current manufacturing methods used in operations.

- Meet key performance measures for the assigned process families in the areas of quality, safety, cost, productivity, and timely release of customer orders.

- Provide effective leadership by challenging the process, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, modeling/leading the way when necessary, and building morale by encouraging the spirit.

Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or 5+ years of equivalent related experience.

- Team player, organized, self-motivated, and capable of independent work.

- Proficiency in technical application of manufacturing practices and demonstrated knowledge.

- Working knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturing processes.

- Self-driven, results-oriented, excellent communicator and effective leader.

- Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

- Ability to communicate a wide variety of technical issues to Customers, Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Operations and Suppliers.

- Pursue continuing education and technical knowledge in relevant topics.

Desired Skills:
- 5+ years of applied experience in an Engineering/Technology position in manufacturing.

- Previous experience in the metals industry and/or metallurgy knowledge.

- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in quality tools and relevant safety regulations.

- Experience in Value Stream Mapping, Time Standards, Line Balancing, and Plant Floor Layout.

- Training in Lean Manufacturing, Visual Factory, Kanban, Kaizen, and Six-Sigma methods.

- Materials flow management experience.

- Experience with ERP or MRP software.

Measurements:
- First pass yield of released process plans, prints, and work instructions. (Revisions)

- On-time performance of released orders. (Based upon input performance)

- Cost Reductions.

Nickel Process Metallurgist
1st Shift 8 am-5 pm
Positions Available: 1
Scot Forge is seeking a Process Metallurgist to specialize in Nickel-based forging at our Spring Grove, IL location. This position will be responsible for all technical issues related to forging, heat treating, quality assurance, product development, and process improvement efforts related to our Nickel-based forging applications, in addition to our other alloy groups. Experience in Nickel-based materials is required.

Requirements:
•At least Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science (Masters Degree preferred).
•At least 5 years experience in Nickel-based forging applications. Experience with other (non-forging) Nickel-based metalworking applications will also be considered.
•Good communication and interpersonal skills.

General Responsibilities:
The daily activities of this position are diverse but generally include the following:
•Troubleshooting and problem solving utilizing a scientific approach.
•Developing, writing, instituting and executing manufacturing procedures.
•Close involvement with the Quality Assurance Department.
•Witness and optimization of manufacturing processes.
•Failure analysis and disposition of internally and externally rejected forgings, including implementation of necessary corrective actions.
•Correspondence and interaction with customers as required.
•Close interaction and auditing of Nickel-based raw material suppliers.
•Research and Development projects for process improvement and product development.
•Use of Forge2008 forging simulation software and SolidWorks software packages (prior experience with this software not required).
•Some travel as necessary.
•This position is intended to encompass all technical aspects and responsibilities associated with Nickel-based forging applications.

Quality Assurance Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Quality Engineering function assists the Corporate Quality Manager in serving and protecting both the customer and Scot Forge by providing support to our Sales, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing Departments. Responsible for assuring compliance to customer and industry quality requirements by way of facilitation, training, and administrative support along with individually contributing to duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must possess a Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Engineering and 3 years Experience as a Quality Engineer or an Associates Degree in Engineering and 5 years experience as QE or CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) and 7 years experience. Successful candidates will have experience in FMEA / APQP/ Control Plan / PPAP, Calibration – AIAG MSA, understanding of (ISO17025), Lead Auditing – ISO9000, AS9100, NQA-1, Structured Problem Solving (8D), Six Sigma, and Supplier Development. Candidates must also have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently, follow direction, leadership skills and a solid understanding of statistics.

Quality Engineer - Complex Orders Group

The Quality Department has an opening for a Quality Engineer to assist the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager by providing support for our Complex Orders Group(including the nuclear market segment), Product Sales, Process Engineering and the Manufacturing Departments to ensure shop order and certification compliance meet customer and nuclear industry quality requirements. This will be accomplished by way of facilitation, training, and administrative support along with individually contributing to the following duties.

In the area of Shop Order and Certification Review, the successful candidate will be required to communicate with customers and 3rd party auditors, address complaints related to quality systems, product, processes and documentation, communicate and provide training to personnel, coordinate customer witness and other 3rd party inspection of nuclear related production and interpret engineering and geometrical tolerance specification.

The successful candidate will deal with Supplier Quality in the areas of Nuclear Products ASL maintenance, coordinate with purchasing the execution of internal procedures to evaluate and approve new and existing suppliers, validate supplier auditing, evaluation procedures and established systems with respect to applicable nuclear industry standards and regulations, and review and approval of all incoming nuclear quality documents. Candidate will also be responsible for Internal Audit and CAR Support.

In addition, successful candidate will support the development of the Scot Forge Nuclear Quality Program by performing ongoing training of nuclear requirements to employees, developing additional employees with understanding of ASME Section III requirements, assist in the development of Quality System and Operational System procedures and instructions in compliance with national standards and work with Operations and Quality to systematically ensure product quality through process control methods.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Sales Account Manager / Technical Inside Sales

The Scot Forge Company’s Inside Sales Team is looking for self-motivated, highly driven individuals to manage and develop current and prospective customers.

The successful candidate must possess excellent listening, communication and problem solving skills in all aspects of sales for current and prospective customers. The ability to work both alone and within a team environment is essential.

The candidate will be accountable for executing functions to promote the sale of forged products and customer service through collaborative and relationship-based initiatives. One candidate will be assigned to the SAS Sales Team.

Daily responsibilities include, but not limited to:

-Determine material requirements, material availability and manufacturing processes to complete quotes or orders by reviewing blueprints.

-Apply pricing standards to determine cost.

-Work with Manufacturing, Quality and Purchasing to determine methods and pricing for any unusual or new orders.

-Negotiating of price, delivery and other items with the customer and/or the outside sales representative.

-Work with outside sales representatives to follow up on outstanding quotations, develop forging product applications to build customer relationships.

-Make sales calls to current and potential customers to promote products and assist with problem resolution.

-Research competitor’s capabilities, and recommend product or method changes to enhance competitiveness.

REQUIREMENTS

-Successful candidates will have a college degree and the aptitude to learn technical sales, material specifications, steel processing and blueprint reading. A background in metals a plus.

-Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.

-Minimum travel is required.

Machine Rebuild / Repair Technician

Job Description:

•Work from Maintenance manuals, prints, work orders and instructions from Group Leader and Supervisor.
•Perform, troubleshoot, and diagnose rebuilds and repairs of a wide variety of equipment requiring advanced knowledge and experience.
•Scrape, layout and refit machine tool slides, gibs and other mechanical components.
•Install, relocate, and perform all the necessary geometrical tests and alignments to the equipment.
•Repair, inspect and test any emergency devices of all machine tools in production.

Qualifications:

•Strong mechanical and electrical/electronic abilities or technical schooling.
•Ability to use micrometers, calipers, wire microscope, precision levels, dial indicators, machine tools operation and functions, hydraulics systems and operations, and basic knowledge of CNC’s operations and diagnostics, including linear scales and encoders.
•Experience in using overhead cranes and forklifts.
•Experience in large machine tools, CNC, PLC, and servo drives.
